Cascade Falls

Behind the Scenes of a Giant Waterfall

We have multiple waterfalls in Polk County, but you haven’t really experienced a waterfall until you’ve seen it from both sides.

Cascade is super easy to find, right in downtown Osceola. Where else can you be on the sidewalk, window-shopping or ordering a latte, and suddenly stumble upon a 25-foot waterfall? There is a catch, though. To get to the falls, you have to brave the stairs. 135 stairs, to be exact. You start by heading down to the waterfall, so it doesn’t feel like such a big deal, but just remember the lesser-talked-about law of motion that says what goes down, must come up (totally made that up) and ration your energy!

Once you hit bottom, you’ll be rewarded with the majesty of the falls, and it’s not difficult to get behind the water for your very own rom-com-montage moment. There’s also a woodland trail you can follow to the St. Croix River, with bluffs to climb and a bridge you can hang out under. Once you’re all waterfalled out, it’s just a quick 135-stair climb back up to the aptly named Cascade Street and all its charming boutiques and eateries, where you have totally earned yourself a treat!
