Rock Climbing in Polk County

Climb our Cliffs along the St. Croix River

Basalt rock shapes the distinctive cracks and face routes found along the St. Croix River. Travel back in time, and you’ll find that this gray stone began with fire. Around 1.1 billion years ago, a massive rift tore through the Earth’s crust here, releasing vast flows of lava. Over time, the lava cooled and solidified into the basalt formations that now offer today’s climbing challenges.
