Fish Fries and Old Fashioneds
In Wisconsin, a Friday night fish fry is practically a state law, and you really can’t go wrong wherever you partake, but if you’re looking for an experience instead of just a meal, you have got to try a supper club.
The Wisconsin Supper Club is an institution with a rich history rooted in community. With origins going back to Prohibition and made even more popular in the 1950s, when Americans were reveling in post-war abundance, supper clubs have always been all about comfort, ambiance, and of course, amazing food and drink and plenty of it. Order a pre-dinner drink, (customarily a brandy old fashioned, but you’ll find craft cocktails to please any palate) and settle in to enjoy the unique aesthetics, top-notch service, and delicious, generous portions that promise to make this a truly memorable meal.
The Dalles House in St. Croix Falls is one of the first and most famous supper clubs in Western Wisconsin, first opening in 1947 as “Steamboat Round the Bend.” Its distinctive red velvet chairs and curtains in the elegant dining area make every meal feel like an upscale experience, and the building also features a fun local lounge and two lovely and spacious patios for dining al fresco. Known for their delicious steak, lobster, and signature popovers with sweet butters, you’ll find a wide variety of made-from-scratch traditional foods with a modern twist. The Dalles House has been hosting special occasions and making everyday meals extraordinary since most Polk County residents can remember, and its commitment to our community and our guests is still going strong. You definitely want to find time for a meal here!
